City of Bones takes a trip with me to my favorite place... Barnes and Noble

Amazon: City of Bones

I give this book 4.5 ⭐

All I can say is HOLY COW!!! I never saw the plot twist coming, it basically came out of no where! I thought I had this book all figured out since I was able to figure out most of the book, but that plot twist got me! I had to start off with that mainly because it was one of the biggest highlights of the book for me.

As for the concept of the book, well I do like it BUT most people act like the Shadowhunters thing was something brand new and I must say NOPE! There are many books out there that have the whole people that kill demons. I will say maybe the runes thing is unique, but even that might not be I'm sure there are probably something similar just in a different way. Don't kill me Fans of the Shadowhunters concept I do love them too!

The characters well... They were alright! Maybe as I go deeper into the series they will get better, after all this is the first book. I get annoyed with Clary. I don't know what it is but I'm just not feeling her character much. She is whiny, demanding, and overall annoying. I don't really see her as a strong female protagonist at all. As for Jace, I have a love hate relationship with him. So I love how sarcastic and an a--hole, but I do get annoyed by his conceited ways at times. I'm like okay I get it you are confident BUT for me sometimes it becomes a bit too much. I enjoyed Simons character but to me he was a typically best friend, who is in love with his best friend. I do love the fact that he is in a band and kinda geeky if you ask me lol. Isabelle was nice but there wasn't much about her, maybe in the books to come I will get to know her more. For some reason I like Alec maybe because he too is sarcastic and kinda mysterious. Maybe that's what draws me to him, but I want to know him a little more too. I also love Magnus Bane the little time spent with him in this book was fun, so I am hoping to see him more as I dive more into the books. He definitely is all the things I love in a character: sarcasm, sass, and a whole lot of GLITTER!

Some things that annoy me about the overall story is...

  1. The annoying love triangle. Ok so don't get me wrong sometimes I do enjoy a love triangle BUT I do feel like it's overrated. I feel like in the YA world more authors are using this and they should really stop! Maybe it's a trend but authors it is okay to not use a love triangle in a story I promise a lot of people won't be mad trust me lol.
  2. So the story is a bit cheesy, but it's not so bad.
  3. It's pretty predictable especially if your a fan of YA, but again it wasn't something that would make me not want to continue reading it.
  4. I always would wonder where are the parents lol. Especially Simon's like don't they care about where he has been. I think I would've like to see some kind of parent figure in the story. I guess Hodge was considered the parent like figure BUT I don't know maybe it's just the mom in me that wanted some kind of parent to be there.

Although, there are mixed reviews about this series and some people really couldn't continue it, but I prefer to see if I like it for myself and I did. With that said I would recommend this series. It was quite fun to read and maybe you would agree with me on some stuff and maybe not. I am definitely continuing the series. You should give it a try.
